A New Chapter for Lock Vineyard

A New Chapter

After more than 25 years, the Lock Vineyard is beginning its next chapter! Today, we began the process of replanting the vineyard originally established by Pam and Steve Lock in the late 1990s. Replanting was a vision Steve had for many years, and we’re honored to help carry it forward.

We know these vines mean a great deal to many of you — they do to us as well. They’ve been the foundation of Écluse for decades. Like all vineyards, however, time takes its toll. After 25+ years, the vines are producing less fruit, and farming them has become increasingly challenging. Replanting is the natural next step to ensure the long-term health and future of the estate and the Ecluse brand.

Resting and Rebuilding

Over the next two years, the vineyard will rest as we rebuild and regenerate the soil with compost and cover crops. New vines will follow-planted with thoughtfulness from all we’ve learned over the past 30 years, including improved spacing, modern rootstocks and irrigation, and a continued focus on Cabernet
Sauvignon, Syrah, and the Bordeaux varieties you know and love.

As we look ahead, sustainability remains at the core of what we do. Thibido Vineyard is CCOF Certified Organic, and Lock Vineyard is now
on that same path, with certification underway. Most importantly, Écluse wines will continue uninterrupted in the same style you’ve always enjoyed, continuing to source fruit from the same trusted Paso Robles vineyards we’ve always worked with.

Come See What’s Taking Root

In the winery, Anthony is still making the same great Ecluse wine you know and love. We’re pouring and aging wines in barrel from several vintages of the Lock Vineyard and we look forward to sharing them with you on your next visit!

We invite you to visit us and see the exciting transformation in progress. It’s a rare and meaningful moment to witness a vineyard begin again, and we’re grateful to have you with us on this journey.
