Rootbound is more than a wine — it’s a reflection of family, history, and the vines that tie us to Paso Robles. As second-generation winemakers raised on the legacy of Peachy Canyon Winery, where Zinfandel is our family’s calling card, we’ve spent decades learning the art of farming and refining this iconic grape. Rootbound 2023 comes from our CCOF Certified Organic Thibido Vineyard in the Willow Creek District, meticulously farmed by Josh Beckett. The blend of 42% Carignan, 39% Zinfandel, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Syrah, and 3% Grenache is an organic expression of our estate. Each lot was hand-picked and fermented separately to preserve vibrancy and layered complexity, then guided gently through maceration and aging to balance its concentration with elegance before being thoughtfully blended in 2024. Aged in new and neutral french Oak to add nuances of spice and cedar. The result is a wine that honors where we’ve come from and celebrates our bright future.

In the glass, Rootbound glows a deep, inky purple that hints at its richness. Aromas of purple Jolly Rancher, black licorice, and dark berry coulis swirl lifted by notes of smoked meats and a dusting of cocoa. On the palate, it shows off a spicy, dry edge with bright streaks of bing cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, wrapped in a soft, round mouth with juicy acidity to keep the wine lively. Concentrated fruit along with balanced acidity and firm tannins, this wine has a finish that lingers with a satisfying mix of fruit, spice, and earth‑a wine that feels both familiar and thrillingly new.

Zinfandel is known for pairing well with food and Rootbound is a great match for comfort food at a friendly gathering. Savory grilled lamb pops, roasted vegetable lasagna or wood fired pizzas are great meals to celebrate this wine. Afternoon plans should include a bottle of Rootbound and a board of aged cheese with spicy cured meats for the perfect moment meant to share.
