The Bedfellow 2023 evolved from our meticulously farmed, CCOF Certified Organic Thibido Estate Vineyard in the Willow Creek District. This Paso Robles vineyard offers steep, west-facing slopes that capture coastal influence and contribute to the complexity of the fruit. Historically anchored in Syrah, this Bedfellow vintage leans confidently into the trend with a bold composition of 76% Syrah, 18% Mourvèdre, and 6% Grenache. The Mourvèdre grounds the blend adding savory layers of gamey depth and earthiness to enhance the Syrah’s lush mouth feel with a long, compelling finish. In The Bedfellow 2023, Grenache lifts the dark intensity of Syrah with a touch of bright red fruit and juicy freshness, softening the edges for immediate approachability. The mix of shallow, rocky and limestone rich soils, paired with brisk coastal evenings and warm Paso Robles days, yields a wine that’s both grounded in place and alive with energy.

In the cellar is where tradition meets intention. Estate, hand-harvested fruit was allowed a slow, native fermentation, unlocking deep color and layers of flavor. Gentle foot treading and a basket press encouraged a supple texture, while aging in 225 Liter French oak barriques further enhanced the wine. The resulting blend amplifies the richness of Syrah, the rustic Mourvèdre, and the juicy notes of Grenache, weaving them into an approachable and memorable wine. These limited 69 cases reflect the best of our organic vineyard and Thibido’s style of winemaking.

In the glass, The Bedfellow 2023 shines dark purple to the rim, suggesting its concentration and youth. Aromas open with savory notes of sage, briar, and dried forest floor, balanced by blueberry, plum, and blackberry. On the palate, the wine is lush and round, carried by juicy black cherry and leather tones, accented with spice and mild acidity. The tannins are supple and measured, offering just enough grip before easing into a long, warming finish.
