The Bedfellow

Syrah | 2024

This is The Bedfellow at its most confident yet. Smoky leather and black cherry curl around violets and lavender, wrapped in a chalky, mineral spine‑a wine that’s really come into its own, and knows exactly how good it is.

The Bedfellow 2024 marks a turning point for this wine, a strong 91% Syrah along with 9% Grenache. A blend made possible as our estate vineyard has matured since its 2019 beginnings. The vines are planted on a steep hillside in the Willow Creek District of the Paso Robles AVA, where chalky, rocky soil encourages persevering root systems and resulting in concentrated flavors. We farm this vineyard ourselves, maintaining our CCOF Organic certification with the same care we bring to the wine itself. In the cellar, the Syrah was treated to a cold, long concrete ferment with indigenous yeast and gentle hand punch-downs, a patient process built to preserve the varietal’s true character. The grapes were vinified separately in 225 Liter French oak barriques, both new and neutral, until the final stages of blending. Josh opted for a splash of Grenache, folded in for lift and an added juicy freshness. With only 69 cases produced, this is a wine made for savoring, made for pairing and made to be the life of the party, an obvious enhancement to any celebration.

In the glass, The Bedfellow 2024 offers classic elements of Syrah with smoky and meaty notes followed by black cherry, leather, and a whisper of light oak. The dark, silky texture explodes with blueberry and blackberry, giving way to strawberry, black olive, and smoked meats, all balanced by a chalky, mineral-driven finish that lingers pleasantly.
